Can you take a stab at listing off the playlist? I am curious what they've been doing on this tour.
Posted by Shane at June 19, 2007 3:50 PMThey really didn't stray too far off the Greatest Hits list (I was secretly rooting for them to play "Miss Gradenko", or maybe "Once Upon A Daydream", but no dice). I know for sure they played:
Message in a Bottle
Synchronicity II
Spirits in the Material World
When the World is Running Down
Don't Stand So Close To Me
Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
Driven To Tears
Wrapped Around Your Finger
Walking on the Moon
Truth Hits Everybody
The Bed's Too Big Without You
Murder By Numbers
Invisible Sun
Walking In Your Footsteps
Dee Doo Doo Doo
Can't Stand Losing You
Roxanne
Encores (I think):
So Lonely
King of Pain
Every Breath You Take
Next To You
More cowbell???!!!! More cowbell!!!!
Posted by E at June 19, 2007 9:22 PMWow - Truth hits Everybody! Our crazy attempt at a college band (the Dry Sockets) covered that one, so of course it's an all time favorite.
But I hear you about the has-beens pretending that they still have it. Funniest show I ever saw? Loverboy. And Kansas. In Trenton, NJ. It was also probably the best show I ever saw. (besides Sting in Oslo). (and the Dead at Shoreline). (but it probably wasn't the music that had me enjoying the Dead so much). (and maybe Springsteen at Shoreline).
Anyhow, remember the lead Loverboy guy from MTV? In the tight leather pants? Now he looks like Drew Carey in a silty leopard skin frock.
Posted by Ian at June 21, 2007 7:35 PMLoverboy AND Kansas, in one magical venue! You lucky, lucky boy. I'm so tempted to Imagesearch the Loverboy dude just to see how badly his spandex lifestyle has gone wrong, although the Drew Carey comparison is daunting. I think in order to sit all the way through a Springsteen show, I'd need a little of what makes the Dead shows such a hit.
Seeing Madness perform in San Diego sometime around 1999 was an interesting band-reunion experience. They'd all gotten pretty thin-domed and paunchy. Definitely not as well-preserved as the Police boys.
It's unbelievable that I went to college in Eugene and never once - ONCE! - saw a Dead show. And that's back when Jerry Garcia was still alive. Just one of many things I'd do over at college if I could.
